The most understandable statistics book ever!

Easy read, with plenty of worked examples and extremely relevant to food sensory evaluation. This book only applies to statistics of food sensory. Guaranteed to give a chuckle and will not bore you to death.

A readable statistics textbook!

O'Mahony's "Sensory Evaluation of Food" is a type of statistical textbook that unfortunately is very hard to find in our days. It presents the whole range of basic inferential statistical tests such as t and F-tests and several non-parametric tests in a way that allow the reader to learn how to do these tests by hand. My experience as a PhD in psychology is that in our computerized days students mostly learn to use a statistics program to do the statistical tests. Unfortunately this entail that the average (social science) student have no clue about how these tests are actually done. This textbook can remediate that problem, and it does so in a very readable and sometimes humorous way. It is not mathematically dense as most textbooks in statistics are but shows the reader how to do the tests by a combination of verbal description and the use of simple formulas.

In addition to the introduction to basic inferential statistics O'Mahony describes the similarities and differences between sensory evaluation of food and experimental psychology and points out how the differences leads to slightly different statistical models to dram inferences from observed scores. This discussion point out the importance of knowing how to handle random vs. fixed effects in your statistical model.

All in all one of the most valuable statistical textbooks I have found.

OK for background

Books which give details on how transformers are actually built are few and far between. I have a suspicion that writers who are in a poition to provide details do not do so because they want to keep the knowledge 'secret'. This book, along with some others, gives some, but not enough practical details or examples on how to design a transformer. It also gfoes inrto academic details which are largely irrlevant as they are not covered in enough depth to be useful.

Yet there is very little complicated about 90% of the building of a trafo, and the 10% that is complicated is really only of interest to the manufacturer.

The book which gives most details about trafos is Feinberg ' Modern Power Transformer Practice' although it is badly laid out and suffers from some units being in metres, others in mm2 etc.

An honest, heartbreaking and hilarious look at PTSD through a fantasy filter.

Trauma focuses on the toll caused by the dehumanization of the individual in oppressive societal organizations, specifically from fundamentalist religion and government but not exclusively. The author's prose is succinct, and he eschews more flowery description and traditional plot contrivances in favor of raw emotion, dark thoughts, horrific memories and disconcerting visions spawned by damaged psyches. The plot doesn't follow a traditional narrative, with the story primarily focusing on the present circumstances of the characters with occasional flashbacks to prior events.

The humor is dark and the language is hilariously foul, and the levity balances nicely with the book's more serious and heart-wrenching moments.

As someone who has lived with PTSD for more than a decade, this book felt especially personal to me. It's clear that the author understands the horror and helplessness that it can bring: the uncontrollable crying and shaking, the flashbacks, the sudden irrational and angry emotional flare-ups, wishing for death and contemplating suicide are all things that he addresses that I have had to deal with. And It's good to see PTSD so openly and honestly addressed.

I'm really happy I purchased this book. It's quite different from the average novel, fantasy or otherwise, and I appreciate its unique voice atypical subject matter.

A Layered Journey

Other than a few typos and grammatical errors, it's a good fiction book dealing with layers upon layers of emotions. Good read, and a good first book by Mr. Wilson. Every character has their own very deep yearnings and power. The journey they travel is more than just from a physical point A to point B.
